The little boats, called by the French, navettes, had just crossed the Mediterranean Sea. The boats held no seasoned seamen and moved across the sea without oarsmen or even oars. An unseen power propelled the tiny vessels and their passengers all the way from the shores of Israel to this insignificant Mediterranean village. But from this tiny village, these new arrivals would separate and move north, east, and west, to change the entire culture and history of France, Europe, and all of western civilization.
