Years ago, when we started HomeStrung Jewelry, I thought I would only work with the best semi-precious gemstones and findings.  Early purchases were hand-selected, top-grade, semi-precious gemstones, and sterling or gold-filled components. These Botswana agate gemstones were an early acquisition and I fell completely in love. I really didn’t know how special they were at the time, but they were definitely swoon-worthy, and so, went into my private collection.

These stones were purchased directly from an international source who was, at the time, trying to figure out the US market and all of the in’s and out’s of online sales. And, at that time, we still hadn’t decided to design and produce kits, or teach, or do anything more than just make jewelry for a few friends and family. As a result, we didn’t buy very many beads. But they were so pretty, we probably bought more than we should have.

Well, today we do teach, and we produce jewelry kits using a lot of very pretty beads and semi-precious stones. That international vendor we sent a few simple orders to is today one of our best sources for top-grade materials, though some of the shapes and sizes of the beads are becoming difficult, if not impossible, to find. Luckily we have this little stash we picked up those many years ago.

Now, I am so excited to be able to bring these special gifts from the earth to you as our very first offering in “Debby’s Deals”! Rarely will you find agate of this type and quality, and never at these prices. Each bead or stone has unique markings that, according to legend, are secret messages, inscribed eons ago for the stone’s future owner. The markings are there to tell you how you can best use your creative gifts and be of service to those within your realm of influence.

After hundreds of thousands of years imprisoned deep within the earth and encased in a coarse stone crust, they are happy to be free and eager to share their insights with a new human partner!

Your Majesty

Some collectors consider Botswana Agate the royalty of Agates. Its intricate bands and warm colors make it uniquely beautiful. It is a delightful Agate to engage and observe.

The highly varied banding is what set agates apart as a gemstone for the past 5000 years. In modern times geographical sources, and uniquely intricate patterns, as well as the banding determine a stone’s value.

Collecting and exporting Botswana agate is controlled by the government of Botswana so this material is more difficult to obtain. Rough, unfinished stones cannot be exported so it is often tumble-polished which, unfortunately, leads to breakage and fracture lines which means even more breakage during any additional cutting or finishing.

History & Home

The area of Botswana where these little beauties are found is rich with human and geological history. The earth’s earliest human settlements are believed to be in the Tsodilo Hills (locals call the hills Male, Female and Child) in the Mashatu Reserve in Botswana. This beautiful stone has a local history as old as humanity.

If you came across a Botswana agate in the wild you would probably walk right on by. They appear as small, grayish-white nodules, rarely more than 3 or 4 inches across. You would have to break through the opaque rind to find the beautiful treasure that lies within. These not so beautiful nodules have lain within the earth for at least 140 to 180 thousand years, waiting patiently to be discovered by someone able to see the beauty hidden within the crusty shell.

When the earth was young, active volcanoes in the Botswana region erupted, covering the land in molten lava. The lava flow moved slowly, and it began building up, layer by layer over time. Pressure and weight increased, causing openings in the initial lava layers which had already cooled.

In these openings, additional layers formed to become round, stone shaped nodules. and then, as they further cooled and settled, they separated into actual stones. This long process of layering and cooling is what causes the unique banding of the Botswana agate.

So What Does It Mean?

Like the flames of a campfire, a fiery sunset, or the ripples and eddies of a quiet river or stream, the layered bands within bands, and the blending gray, warm pinks and apricot colors of a Botswana agate stone draw the eye and pull in the mind, stimulating meditation and calming contemplation. Such thought can help you unravel and rethink the complexities of modern life.

Named for the area in Africa where it is mined, Botswana Agate is called the Sunset Stone because it retains sunlight and comforts people through dark, lonely nights. It is considered a stone of comfort and is said to help in overcoming depression and can give strength to a grieving individual.

It was anciently considered a “Stone of Change”, aiding in the creative process and allowing an individual to see possibilities and opportunities that may not be outwardly apparent.

Above all, the Botswana agate is a stone of regal beauty, and is a pleasure to own and to wear. And it is with this thought in mind than we are making a small stash of Botswana agate available to all of you.

What Have We Got for You?

Our stash of Botswana agate isn’t very big, but we are ready to share it as our very first listing in “Debby’s Deals”. We have rounds, of course, but also some ovals, drops, and shapes that are becoming increasingly rare and expensive. Normally the prices would range from $5 to $15, but for the next 10 day, November 20th thru the 30th, we will be taking 40% off of these prices.

These are available on a first come, first serve basis, and we hope as many of you as possible are able to experience these beautiful agates.

Here are just a few examples;

  • Botswana agate rounds, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm: $3.75 – $5.70 per strand.
  • Ovals, smooth and faceted, various sizes: $4.50 – $4.80 per strand
  • Large agate nuggets: $3.90 per strand
  • And lots more.

A Final Note on the Care and Feeding of Your New Agate Stones

While the agate is a strong and resilient stone, it is not invulnerable. It is best cleaned using warm soapy water and a soft brush or cotton cloth. Do not clean agates using steam as the stone is sensitive to heat.

Cosmetics, hair spray, and perspiration can negatively affect the surface polish of agate gemstones, so be sure to put agate jewelry on last, after applying make-up and perfumes, and take it off first at the end of the day or an event. Remove agate jewelry before swimming or engaging in sports.

Store agate jewelry in a separate pouch or box to prevent it from damaging, or being damaged by, other stones. Do not store in direct sunlight or in a warm location.

Take good care of your agate jewelry and they will serve you as lifetime companions.

Amethyst Sky Jewelry Set https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/amethyst-sky-jewelry-set/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=amethyst-sky-jewelry-set https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/amethyst-sky-jewelry-set/#comments Mon, 18 May 2020 22:02:11 +0000 https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/?p=6755

The World Could Use a Little Sparkle About Now

Let’s Create Some Sparkle!!!

Ever have one of those mornings when you really don’t look forward to getting up and doing the whole “life” thing? Or maybe about halfway through the day, you begin to think, today would have been a whole lot better if you had just stayed in bed? A day when you have no sparkle?

Well, we have the answer to your daily doldrums, and it comes in a particularly fetching shade of purple. A jewelry project named Amethyst Sky.

Just the name, Amethyst Sky, envisions technicolor sunbeams, bright, cheerful, 60’s style, family sitcom mornings (I know, everything was black and white in the ‘60s, but bear with me. We’re painting a picture here). Add in some romantic evenings with balmy breezes, perfect temperatures, and absolutely no insects, annoying cell phones, or crying children. An Amethyst Sky is bliss. It’s sparkle.

The new Amethyst Sky jewelry set is all about light and sparkle and happy, purple-ly thoughts. Anciently, amethyst was a stone of healing; physically and emotionally. It was a stone that enhanced daily energy and gave the wearer a greater sense of happiness and well being.

Well, heaven knows, in these trying times we could all use a little energy and emotional well being. And it doesn’t hurt that this new jewelry looks spectacular.

Of course the jewelry features lots of real amethyst, but there are also plenty of amethyst colored crystals and some very special findings we selected specifically for this set. The clasp on the bracelet, in particular, stands out as a pretty little extra, adding to the entire piece.

The necklace has an amethyst pendant with a very simple wrap you should be able to conquer in just a few minutes. (We have a new YouTube video to walk you, step-by-step, through the making of the pendant). And with just a few more minutes of stringing you can complete the necklace, add the pendant, put it around your neck, and let those positive healing powers begin to do their work.

The bracelet has, along with the beautiful, previously mentioned, clasp has a unique, chevron amethyst central stone. It sparkles with every movement or change of lighting. It looks especially fantastic on moonlit nights.

The earrings continue the theme, framing your face in soft, amethyst light, with just the right amount of sparkle. (Have you noticed we use the word “sparkle” a lot in describing this set? It’s only because it is true.)

Give yourself a reason, and the energy, to get up in the morning. The world needs you out there, wearing your new Amethyst Sky jewelry, sharing your amazing new energy, happiness, and well being.

The Miraculous Story of the Navettes https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/the-miraculous-story-of-the-navettes/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-miraculous-story-of-the-navettes https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/the-miraculous-story-of-the-navettes/#comments Tue, 14 Apr 2020 22:32:28 +0000 https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/?p=6695

The Miracle

To understand the inspiration for this latest jewelry project, we have to take you to a small coastal town, in the south of France. The year is 40 A.D. (We are not talking 1940, or 1740, or even 1040, but 40 A.D., just 40 years after the meridian of time; almost 2000 years ago.)

It was at this time and place, that a small group of double prow boats (boats that come to a point at each end) arrived after a journey that spanned the Mediterranean. The boats moved without oarsmen, or even oars, but were propelled by a powerful, spiritual force. These little boats were called by the French, “navettes”.

The passengers of these tiny boats had left the holy land, shortly after the crucifixion of Christ, and were brought to this French beach just a little southwest of Marseilles. Mary Magdalene, her sister Martha, and brother Lazarus (yes, that “Lazarus”), led this little band, along with Joseph of  Arimathea, and a number of other notable Biblical characters.

Together they changed the religious, social, and economic foundations of France, and left a profound mark on the future of the entire continent. Their arrival at that tiny fishing village is celebrated today with the annual Festival of Lights, or Chandeleur.

As part of the celebrations, people make and consume bread and pastries in the shape of the little boats that brought their saintly passengers to France, known as Navettes.

It’s a Boat; It’s a Bread; It’s Jewelry

Back to the present day, a few years ago, Debby went shopping for something new and exciting to put into one of her jewelry designs. That was when she found these very special, navette connectors. The only problem, they were being discontinued, and there was only limited stock. She bought every one our vendor had left, about a thousand. They arrived, she briefly admired them, then put them into a container, in a drawer, on a shelf where they sat for years.

It was while we were cleaning and reorganizing the studio a while back that the Navettes re-appeared (without oarsmen, or even oars). It was a revelation. We brought them out to the work area, and the design just seemed to make itself.

Now we have it to share with all of you.

The main feature of each piece is the unique, marquise-shaped metal spacer beads and the Navette pendant, the “star” of our collection, is made from a circle of these navette beads. One prow of each bead is joined in the center of the star. The other ends are separated by a couple of sparkly crystals and your choice of gemstone beads. Finished, it looks exactly like an arrangement of navette pastries on a round plate.

The bracelet reminds us of a row of boats safely moored to a long, thin dock running out to sea from some small seaside village. A double row of gemstone beads keeps the navettes in tight formation.

And of course there are earrings.

Make and Wear the Legend

The navette jewelry kits are currently available in the HomeStrung store. The links are shown below. Each piece is available with one of four gemstones of your choosing: snowflake obsidian, rhodonite, lapis lazuli, or howlite.

Supplies are limited, but for a short time we are are offering a free matching navette earring kit if you purchase both a pendant/necklace and bracelet as a set. Order the two pieces and we will include the earrings when we send the kits to you.

Sparkly New Easter Bunny Jewelry https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/sparkly-new-easter-bunny-jewelry/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=sparkly-new-easter-bunny-jewelry https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/sparkly-new-easter-bunny-jewelry/#respond Thu, 12 Mar 2020 22:39:42 +0000 https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/?p=6594

Have Your Own Easter Parade with Some Great New Jewelry

It’s almost time to celebrate our favoritest of all Spring holidays by making some new Bunny Jewelry. And we’ve got the funnest, most sparkliest Easter bunnies you’ve ever seen. (And yes, my grammar and spelling checker just had a violent conniption, exploded, and then uninstalled itself from our computer, which should make writing the rest of this article a whole lot easier.)

Easter has been with us for almost 2000 years and there have been a lot of changes over that time as to how it is celebrated, and one of our favorite traditions is the Easter Parade.

It All Started with a Roman Emperor…

It’s rumored that Roman Emperor Constantine the First, started the first Easter parade somewhere around 330 A.D. when he commanded his subjects to march around the city in their finest clothing to celebrate the resurrection of Christ. We have it on good authority that cool new Easter jewelry was featured heavily in this celebratory march.

1550 years later (that’s around the year 1880 for those of you, like me, who are mathematically challenged) New York City formalized what had become an Easter tradition when the biggest churches in town would decorate their massive cathedrals with fresh spring flowers for their Easter service. The more well-to-do attendee’s, inspired by all of this grandeur, would follow suit by dressing up in lavishly colorful, stylish, and beautiful new clothes (along with some great jewelry) to attend their respective church services.

After the meeting, these affluent parishioners would then stroll down the avenue (with their new clothes and jewelry) to check out the other ornately decorated churches as well as checking out the other ornately decorated couples also strutting their stuff (and their jewelry) on the avenue.

Meanwhile, the poor and middle class showed up (probably without a lot of jewelry) to witness all of this sartorial magnificence and to find out what would be fashionable for the coming year, fashion a good seamstress could make at home (a lot like our jewelry).

This became the annual Easter Parade, an American cultural event inspiring an Irving Berlin song, a Broadway revue, and a movie with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire (I guess that means singing AND dancing, along with a great display of some lavish jewelry), and still open to anyone who wants to show up and show off their fashion sense. It happens along 5th Avenue, in the City, each Easter.

And did we mention that along with all of the marvelous clothing there is also a lavish amount of jewelry on display? A LOT of jewelry.

But What Does All this Have to Do with Bunnies???

Well, who doesn’t love bunnies? Especially sparkly bunnies you can wear on Easter, and every other day of the year. If Emperor Constantine had known about the Pearl & Pave Bunny jewelry, he would have definitely had his minions passing out bunny earrings and pendants to all of his citizens. Judy Garland? If she had seen the Bunnies, she would have been wearing Bunnies throughout her movie. Fred Astaire? Maybe not so much. But, who knows? We are truly lucky to live in these modern times where we can make and wear adorable Bunny Jewelry.

Our Pave & Pearl Easter Bunny Jewelry kits feature the cutest bunnies you’ve ever seen. The crystal pearls are white and the crystal-encrusted pave beads are available in 8 different colors.

We have both earring kits and pendant with necklace chain kits available. Buy both kits, as a set, and we have a special 25% discount from now through Easter. You can get all of the details by going over to the Pave & Pearl Bunny product page of the HomeStrung store.

These bunnies make great gifts. They are inexpensive, fun, and easy to make. Each kit can be completed in just minutes (you can pretty much have the earring or pendant kit finished during one TV commercial break).

Become an Easter Trivia Hero

While you are making your new Bunny Jewelry, here is just a little Easter trivia you can use to astound and amaze your friends and family.

The Easter Bunny’s formal name is Egbert. He is married to Betty Bunny, his longtime sweetheart, and mother to his 20 children. She lets him get away from his household responsibilities once a year so he can deliver colorful Easter eggs to the children of the world.

Easter easily competes with Halloween each year as the two biggest holidays for candy sales. Americans are expected to spend over $18 billion dollars on Easter this year, and a lot of that goes to candy.

90 million chocolate bunnies will be produced, and eaten, during the holiday. Depending on the survey, somewhere between 75 and 90 percent of people eat their chocolate bunnies, ears first. Only 4 percent start with the tail.

Americans will buy more than 700 million Marshmallow Peeps this Easter season. In 1953, it took almost 27 hours to make a small batch of Peeps. Today the candy maker kicks out about 5 million of the Peeps each day, all year long, just to get ready for the holiday. Yellow is the most sold color, followed by pink, lavender, blue, and white.

Easter was named after the Anglo-Saxon goddess, Oestre, who was the goddess of spring and the renewal of life. She had a pet bird which she once changed into a bunny to entertain a group of children. Since this bunny was really a bird, it began to lay colorful eggs which Oestre then gave to the children.

Easter is a major religious holiday celebrated by Christians throughout the world. Easter Sunday has the highest church attendance of the year, followed by Christmas and Mother’s Day.

Happy Easter, Everyone!!!

Jewelry to Leave You “Breathless” https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/jewelry-to-leave-you-breathless/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=jewelry-to-leave-you-breathless https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/jewelry-to-leave-you-breathless/#comments Sat, 22 Feb 2020 21:59:17 +0000 https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/?p=6493

It Won’t be Spring until You Have this New Jewelry Set!!!

Spring is more than just an annual arrangement of planets and celestial bodies we call the Vernal Equinox. It is a time for new life and fresh beginnings. It is a time of positive energy, change, and excitement. It is the season when we stop living in a world all black and white and step into a realm of vibrant, ever-changing colors.

It is with Spring in mind that we bring you our “Breathless” jewelry set pairing two beautiful sets of gemstones that complement each other perfectly. These are the gemstones of Spring.

First, we have soft, blue Aquamarines, the birthstone of March. According to legend, these were the treasure of mermaids and any sailor who carried the stone would be safe at sea.

The Romans believed the Aquamarine was sacred to Neptune, the god of the sea, and having fallen from the jewelry boxes of sirens would be washed ashore. When collected by young lovers, the stone would absorb the feelings and atmosphere of that young love, preserving it forever.

The Aquamarines in the Breathless set are of the highest quality and match beautifully with the second stone, the Apatite.

Apatite is not a birthstone, but is the gemstone of the Vernal Equinox; the gemstone of Spring. Apatite can occur in many different colors, but the Brazilian blue apatite is one of the most sought after colors and is what we have used in this set.

Each bead is like a piece of the late evening sky, or, actually, like a still ocean reflecting an evening sky. Its deep blue color, with a slight shading of green, is ever reflecting flashes of light, sometimes like stars, sometimes like lighting trying to hide within a cloud.  Its inner light changes constantly as the gemstones move about making each bead a crystal ball you can get lost in.

Apatite has been considered a gemstone of new ideas and dreams and is a wonderful match with the Aquamarine.

Breathless Jewelry Set

Blue Czech crystal beads help carry the “blue” theme of the gemstones and add a little sparkle to each piece of Breathless jewelry. And every set also includes our favorite little metal heart beads, just because we love them, and spring is also symbolic of not just new love, but of a love that is “Breathless” and eternal.

To make this set you will need to do some stringing, some crimping, and be able to make some wire wrapped loops. We include wire to make your own clasps for the necklace and bracelet or you may add a commercial clasp of your choosing. The earrings include a pair of lever-back ear wires.

The necklace is about 21 inches long, depending on your clasp choice, and the bracelet can fit a wrist up to 9 inches with the extension chain.

With a little bit of time and effort, you will have some beautiful, heirloom-quality jewelry, made from gemstones that each carry a unique and special story.

Impressive “Impressions” Jewelry Set https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/impressive-impressions-jewelry-set/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=impressive-impressions-jewelry-set https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/impressive-impressions-jewelry-set/#comments Thu, 12 Dec 2019 23:44:05 +0000 https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/?p=4870

Sometimes, Even We Have to Stop and Stare

You all understand about ordering things from the Internet: Colors are off, nothing ever looks quite as good as the “random samples” displayed in the pictures. and heaven help you if you don’t check, then double check, the sizes and dimensions. With modern photo manipulation and enhancement it’s no wonder things don’t always match what you thought you ordered.

Now, we love our vendors and suppliers. They send us some amazingly beautiful stuff and rarely disappoint us. But we still experience a little anxiety, and not a few stomach butterflies on bead order delivery days (Debby orders TUMS by the case; says she just takes them for the calcium).

So it was a big relief, and just a little exciting, when our order of Impression Jasper beads showed up and looked way, way more spectacular than the catalog pictures. We really did stop and stare. And then we began to play.

What do you do when the beads look this good, and they are just sitting there on the strands? You make something like a simple string of beads, with just a few accent beads, hardly noticeable, to enhance the beauty of the featured stones.

And that’s the other thing: Making a jewelry design where every bead is perfect and exactly the same as every other bead can be okay (a strand of quality pearls is a good example), but it is more amazing when every bead may be of the same species, but each and every one is unique and and an individual work of art.

You could take one of these beads, put it, all by itself, onto a string, wire, or chain, and say, this is a necklace, and people would think, that’s pretty. But a whole string of these beauties? It’s like owning an art gallery in stead of just one little picture. It can be overwhelming. And “overwhelming” is what we wanted for these beads.

The set includes a necklace, bracelet, and threader style earrings. Each piece is made up from some of the most spectacular impression jasper we have seen. The jewelry is also accented by pretty little crystal abacus beads, and some rose gold rounds with cuts so they sparkle like diamonds.

The necklace and bracelet kits come with enough rose gold plated wire to make either a “J” or “S” hook clasp. We include a rose gold accent bead if you wish to add it to the clasp.

The earrings include a pair of rose gold threader ear findings, double plated for extra wear resistance. The earrings include rose gold plated headpins, impression jasper beads, and crystal abacus beads to make the drops.

All of the kits include complete, full color, printed instructions. And we encourage you to contact us if you have any questions, concerns, or problems while making your jewelry.

Click on any of the photos, or the buttons down below, to go to the individual product pages for more pictures, more information, and the special, holiday sales price.

The Miracle of the Poinsettias

Many years ago, in a humble village in Mexico, the people in and around the tiny town were preparing for what they hoped would be the best Christmas celebration ever seen in their part of the world. The Christmas festival would last an entire week and would center around a new nativity scene the villagers would build outside the local church. Each day there would be celebrations as the nativity was assembled, and people could come to pray each morning and evening at the little church. On the final night, Christmas eve, people would come to the nativity, where they could kneel before the manger and present gifts to the Christ child.

Just outside the village lived a little girl named Pepita. She lived with her parents, her grandmother, and two older brothers. Pepita wanted so much to be a part of all of the Christmas events, but especially, she wanted to be able to kneel before the Christ child, on Christmas eve, with a gift showing her love for the baby Jesus.

But Pepita had no money to buy a gift, and she had no way to work to earn the money as she spent each day, struggling with her family, to scratch out a meager living from their little farm. She could make a gift, but she had neither time nor materials

All week she worried she had no gift and finally confided in her grandmother.

“Pepita,” her grandmother told her, “The baby Jesus will be pleased with whatever you give because he knows your gift comes from your heart.”

“But I have nothing,” she said.

“Just pray and use your heart to find the perfect gift.”

Christmas eve arrived and Pepita came into town praying she would find a suitable gift. Everywhere she looked she saw people, beautifully dressed, carrying flickering candles, and walking toward the nativity. All carried gifts to place before the manger. Panicking now, Pepita looked around her, hoping to see anything that would serve as a gift. All she could see were some leafy plants, little more than weeds, growing along the path to the church. They were fresh, green, and full of life. Pepita quickly gathered an arm load of the plants. Holding them close, and hoping no one would notice, she hurried toward the church.

At the nativity, all the people were gathered, the flames of a hundred candles lighting the night. People, one by one, came forward to arrange their presents around the manger.

When it was her turn, little Pepita came before the figure of the Christ child and looked around at all of the marvelous gifts. She felt ashamed of her humble offering and tried to run away. But the crowd pushed her forward. She quickly dumped her armload of weeds over the manger, and with tears welling up in her eyes, scrambled, unsuccessfully, to get away.

At first, there were a few chuckles. Then a gasp and the crowd became silent.

“It’s a miracle,” someone exclaimed, and others echoed the remark in whispers of awe and excitement.

Pepita, unable to hide or run away, looked back to see her “weeds”, strewn in and around the manger, and as she watched, bright red flowers were appearing at the top of each plant until the manger was filled with the crimson blossoms.

It was the best gift of all; a gift from the heart, given in love.

Whether You Have Been Naughty or Nice – You Don’t Need to Check Twice – To Make Some New Jewelry This Holiday Season

Coming up with neat, new Christmas stuff is an annual tradition here at HomeStrung. We always try to give you a new tree decoration design and at least one new holiday earring project you can make to wear or give away.

We’ve got a new ornament that will look perfect on your tree, and we have a new earring, using a spectacular new bead we found that was just crying out to be used in a Christmas design. All things considered, we had our new designs. But Debby just couldn’t let well enough alone. She started working on a second earring.

The Christmas Flower that Grew into a Wearable Garden

The extra, new earring is a cute little beaded poinsettia, perfect for Christmas (especially if you read the legend of the poinsettia flower that goes with it). She finished it up, way too quickly, and then just kept on going, adding little poinsettias to the original flower, until she had turned that earring into a bracelet.

Poinsettia Bracelet

Well, the project was supposed to be an earring, so she made a couple more earrings to replace the one earring that turned into a bracelet, They looked pretty good with the new bracelet. But, looking at the two earrings, side by side, she started to think.

Now when Debby starts to think it is always a little scary but it is when amazing things can happen. (Steve, on the other hand, is forbidden to think without adult supervision, a fire extinguisher, and a first aid kit, all close at hand.) She moved the earrings around a little, stared at them for a moment, and then got out some more beads, a needle, and thread.

Poinsettia Necklace

She joined the two earring poinsettias together using a third flower and added a chain and clasp. Those two earrings were now a three poinsettia necklace.

She had a new necklace AND a bracelet, but, again, no earrings.

Out came the beads and thread, and in a few more moments she had a complete Christmas jewelry set made from the adorable little poinsettia flowers. The original earring was now a garden of flowers you can make and wear this Holiday season.

Poinsettia Earrings

Give the gift of poinsettias this Christmas.

The 2019 “Hope” Snowflake Ornament Kit

The idea for this new ornament has been percolating through our minds for the last few years. We were looking for something a little fancier than our beaded star ornaments, but even easier to make.

This year we finally got it done and here is the result. It features some of our best quality glass pearls and enough sparkly crystals and Miyuki beads to send rainbows of light dancing around your room (which is why we like to hang them in a sunny window, as well as on the tree).

The snowflake kit is also on sale and you can see it in our store (Just click on the picture).

These snowflake ornaments look good on your tree, but they will also look great on the Christmas trees of your family, friends, and neighbors, so make sure you make a few for gifting. And even your most Christmas adverse friends won’t mind a snowflake “sun catcher”, or two, flooding the house with shimmering rainbows of light.

A Special New Bead for Our New Christmas Earring

When we saw pictures of these new beads we knew we had to have them. When they showed up we had the same idea: a new Christmas earring. We each came up with new designs and this is the one that won.

The earrings come in 5 fun colors, you can choose between silver and gold-colored findings, and you get to decide whether you want white shell pearl or crystal accents.

Check out all of the shiny bead colors on the product page in our store.

These are really easy and fast to make. We personally are making a lot of these to give away to family and friends this Christmas.

There is More in the Store

We have both a Christmas Jewelry category and one for Ornaments in our store with many more holiday designs to choose from. You can see all of the Christmas stuff there.

Experience the Soft Colors of an Autumn in Tuscany All Year Round

Autumn is Harvest Time in the Tuscan Region of Italy. A Place of Great Culture & History, Wonderful Food, and Beautiful Scenery.

It is also the inspiration for this jewelry set we call “Autumn in Tuscany.”

This jewelry also features Millefiori beads, a style of glass refined by Venetian craftsmen a half a millennium ago.

Millefiori: Glass with a Thousand Flowers

The name Millefiori is taken from the Italian “mille” meaning “thousand”, and the word “fiori”, which is “flowers”. Though the technique was refined by Venetian artisans over a thousand years ago, it was originally invented by the ancient Egyptians more than a millennium earlier.

Dozens of colorful glass threads are bundled together and fused into a glass rod whose cross section now looks like a glass flower. The rods are cut into disks then incorporated into glass bowls, paper weights, and beads.

We Find a Treasure

Like so many wonderful things, these beads were found, hidden away in a forgotten corner of a vendor’s warehouse. They were found and customers were made aware of their existence. Debby was one of those customers.

By the time she contacted the bead company to tell them we wanted the beads, they had only a very small quantity left. We took all they had, sight unseen, and waited for their delivery.

We were more than pleased when they arrived; the Millefiori, encased in a dark crystal, reminded us of dried flower corsages, courageously holding onto their summer colors.

Introducing “Autumn in Tuscany”

Combined with crystal beads in black, dark smoke, autumn orange and gold the color of a sunset, they brought to mind memories of autumn, with the shortened days, the changing leaves, the warm sun and cool nights. These are memories, strung on wire, and made to be worn as elegant, beautiful jewelry. (Please click on the photos to go to the product page for each piece of jewelry and see even more pictures and project details.)

For the rest of October all of the Autumn in Tuscany kits are on sale. Regularly the necklace is only $18, the bracelet is $12, and the earrings are $6. Until the end of the month they will be $15, $10, and $5.

Every jewelry box needs at least one Millefiori set.

Only basic stringing, crimping, and wire wrapped loop skills are needed to turn our treasure find into yours.

Halloween is Coming and We Have Some Great New Holiday Jewelry https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/halloween-is-coming-and-we-have-some-great-new-holiday-jewelry/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=halloween-is-coming-and-we-have-some-great-new-holiday-jewelry https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/halloween-is-coming-and-we-have-some-great-new-holiday-jewelry/#respond Tue, 01 Oct 2019 00:46:58 +0000 https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/?p=2809

The greatest Jewelry Holiday of the whole year is almost here

Christmas is coming; Thanksgiving, too. The New Year will be here before you know it. But everyone’s favorite holiday will be here in just a month.

I mean, really, what can’t you get away with on Halloween when people wear strange costumes and makeup and anything else they want?

Want to wear skulls as earrings? No problem. (And we’ve got some in this year’s new designs.) Got a sweater covered in bright orange jack ‘o lanterns you wouldn’t be caught dead wearing? On Halloween, you are a runway model. Thinking of going all “Elvira” for the office party with a black wig, black lipstick over a white foundation, a long black dress that looks like it was hemmed with a chainsaw, and a spider web necklace complete with a ruby-eyed, black widow? You’ll blend right in. (And we’ve got a couple of spiders featured this year as well.)

The only thing that might make this season just a little better would be your very own Halloween Jewelry, proudly made by you, to give away, or wear anywhere and everywhere you want. No judgement. Nothing but compliments.

We are here to help.

Check out these earrings

The rest of the year earrings are subtle, understated, and kind of hidden away. On Halloween we want bold, attention grabbing jewelry that is maybe even a little scary.

Dangling Skull Earrings

Chain Maille Pumpkin Earrings

Spider Earrings

Swarovski Ghost Earrings

On the far left, we have a pair of dangling skulls. With red enamel eyes they dangle on the end of an antique silver chain.

Next are our twirly-bird, chain maille, pumpkin earrings. Chain maille is extremely popular and looks super as a Halloween pumpkin. These are a little more of challenge to make but well worth the effort.

Third are a pair of spiders with enameled spots, dancing on the end of a wire “thread”. These are so, so easy to make.

Finally are these cute little ghosts with Swarovski crystal eyes. They want so badly to be scary, but you will just want to keep them close clear through Halloween.

Click on any of the pictures, or the links in the descriptions, to go directly to the listing in our webstore. The skulls and spiders are just $5 per kit, The pumpkins and ghost are on sale until Halloween. The pumpkin earrings discounted to $8 and the Ghost reduced to just $5.

Develop some Charm this Halloween

We love charm bracelets, especially when they have all the color and sparkle of these two pieces. Each one will give you chance to show off your skill at making wire wrapped loops.

The top bracelet we call Pumpkin Patch. It has eight, colorful magnesite jack ‘o lanterns with crystal and hematite “treats” between each pumpkin.

On the bottom is the Trick or Treat charm bracelet with skulls and pumpkins and ghosts and all sorts of spooky, scary charms. This bracelet also features some hematite and crystal “treats” between each charm.

To get to the catalog page for either bracelet just click on the pictures or the links in the descriptions. Each bracelet kit is $10.

Wear This Eensy, Weensy Spider

How can you not love the little spider pendant featured on this new necklace. This pave charm has lots of itsy, bitsy CZ crystals sparkling all over its little eight legged body.

The necklace is all black featuring top grade onxy beads set off by the dark fire of the select grade black crystal. Back tubing hides all evidence of an under lying beading wire. Even the findings, including the magnetic clasp, are black.

Spider Pendant Necklace

Spider Necklace with Memory Wire

You choose between two styles of necklaces. You can either make a traditional necklace with the beads and pendant strung on beading wire and finished with crimps. Or you can go with a memory wire choker with looped ends linked into the clasp.

With either option you can adjust the fit and length for your own personal comfort and style.

You can go to the Spider Necklace product page by clicking here or on either of the above pictures.

The necklace kit, in either style, is $15.

The Spider necklace will look great on Halloween, but also stands out the rest of the year.
